This weekend I stopped in at Sarah’s Vineyard on 152 Hwy just outside Gilroy proper. This is truly one of the hidden gems of South Valley. Along with their award winning wines this is a facility that includes a pizza oven, bocce ball, picnic tables, patio, live music and manicured grounds.
Surrounding Sarah’s Vineyard is Westside Nursery, which provides extended beauty beyond the acres of grape vines exploding into rows of color and texture.
There are plenty of quiet hidden places to explore if you know where to look as well as patio seating next to the pizza oven for meeting new people. On this night an appearance from Donald Elvis Prieto serenaded the crowd complete with ornate jewelry and hip swivels.
Elvis, bocce ball court and pizza oven aside, it’s the wines that make you sit down and take notice of the fore mentioned attractions. The microclimate encompassing this winery produces cool sometimes foggy mornings which benefits wines like Pinot Noir and Chardonnay while the more exposed warmer acreage produces grapes like Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, Sangiovese and Zinfandel.
If you’re a local to this area you might already know the quality of the wine and the beauty of its surroundings. Sarah’s Vineyard however is a must visit destination on your itinerary whether your passing threw, planning a wine tasting trip or a resident of South Valley looking for a pleasant day with the family. Treasure is sometimes hard to find because it’s hidden. Sarah’s Vineyard is easy to find now that you know where to look. Sarah’s Vineyard 4005 Hecker Pass Highway Gilroy, California
